New Eltham Fire Station

New Eltham Fire Station

The growing community of Eltham, Victoria, took a major step forward in 2014 with the opening of a state-of-the-art fire station on Brougham Street. Replacing the previous station on Main Road, this new facility was designed to meet the demands of a rising population by providing 50 dedicated volunteers and career firefighters with modern, purpose-built spaces and equipment. These upgrades enable firefighters to protect the community more effectively and safely.

Innovative and Durable Building Materials: Tech-Dry Blocks

A key feature of the new Eltham Fire Station is the use of Tech-Dry Blocks for its retaining walls. These charcoal-coloured concrete blocks, supplied by National Masonry in Deer Park, contain a proprietary silicone-based water repellent admixture permanently embedded during manufacturing. This admixture drastically reduces water absorption, making the blocks highly resistant to efflorescence, mould, and mildew.

Unlike surface-applied treatments that wear off over time, Tech-Dry’s admixture permanently bonds within the concrete matrix, providing lasting water repellency throughout the life of the block. This integral protection reduces maintenance, preserves the station’s modern look by retaining the original colour of the block and  ensures resilience against Victoria’s variable climate.

This advanced masonry technology is trusted by leading concrete block manufacturers across Australia and internationally, delivering enhanced durability and easier upkeep for a wide range of construction projects.

Why Durable Water-Repellent Masonry Matters

Facilities such as fire stations are subject to continuous exposure to harsh weather conditions and intensive operational use. Durable, water-repellent masonry, such as Tech-Dry Blocks, provides long-term protection against moisture ingress, staining, and surface deterioration. This enhances the structural lifespan while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. Unlike painted concrete block surfaces, which often require ongoing upkeep, Tech-Dry Blocks offer a low-maintenance solution over the life of the building.

This durable solution is equally beneficial for other public and commercial buildings, including hospitals, schools, community centres, police stations, and government offices — wherever sustainable, weather-resistant infrastructure is essential.  For government bodies, developers, and builders, investing in innovative materials like Tech-Dry Blocks supports reliable, low-maintenance public infrastructure that serves communities efficiently for decades.

A Future-Ready Fire Station

Since its opening, the New Eltham Fire Station has stood as an example of modern emergency services infrastructure, harmonising cutting-edge materials with thoughtful design. It offers Eltham’s firefighters a robust base that reflects collaboration between government, local community groups, and industry partners to build resilient, high-performance public buildings designed to last.

If you are planning to build or upgrade public infrastructure, consider the long-term benefits of water-repellent masonry solutions like Tech-Dry Blocks. Contact Tech-Dry to discover how their sustainable, low-maintenance products can safeguard your community’s vital facilities against weather, wear, and time, ensuring security and performance for years to come.
