The Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide, once the historic Adelaide Treasury Building, is a landmark of heritage conservation in South Australia. It sits in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD. Originally built in the mid‑19th century, the sandstone structure served as the administrative centre of the state’s government. As a result, it played a key role in South Australia’s political and economic development. Today, it is a luxury hotel, offering guests the opportunity to experience the city’s rich civic history within a contemporary hospitality setting.
The redevelopment of the Adelaide Treasury Building into a hotel was led by DASH Architects, a firm renowned for its expertise in heritage restoration and conservation. Their approach prioritised the retention of original materials and architectural features, ensuring that the building’s historical character remained intact.
Central to this strategy was the protection of the original masonry, which had begun to show signs of deterioration. Like many heritage structures, the old Treasury building was affected by rising damp. Our Tech-Dry Team in Adelaide went in and treated this beautiful building with the Tech-Dry Damp Course Solution.
In recognition of its exemplary conservation outcomes, the project received a South Australian Heritage Award for Conservation Works. The award acknowledged the successful balance between historical preservation and adaptive reuse.
The Adina Apartment Hotel Adelaide Treasury stands as a living archive of South Australia’s governance and architectural legacy. Its transformation underscores the importance of sustainable tourism, conservation architecture, and the role of protective technologies in maintaining cultural assets. Guests not only enjoy premium accommodation but also engage with Adelaide’s history, brought thoughtfully into the present.
