Emulsion ADM80-1

Description

Emulsion ADM80-1 is a solvent-free (no VOC) silane/siloxane emulsion. The product is designed as a water-repellent admixture for highly-filled external textured coatings. The silane/siloxane reacts with the fillers or aggregates within the textured coating film providing a permanent water repellent effect to the coating film.

Recommended Uses

Exterior textured coatings are popular due to their architecturally-appealing nature, but these coatings allow water to penetrate easily. Their high Pigment Volume Concentration (typically 60–80 PVC) creates this permeability, which in turn reduces weathering resistance. As a consequence, these coatings show relatively poor weathering resistance. The ingress of water through the coating causes discolouration, efflorescence and general degeneration of the coating. By incorporating Emulsion ADM80‑1, manufacturers can make exterior textured coatings water‑repellent and significantly more durable.

Emulsion ADM80-1 is added at a concentration of 0.25-1% by weight to the coating during the final in-plant mixing stage. This addition produces a coating that beads water effectively and forms a film with very low absorption (as shown below). The coating develops water resistance rapidly, preventing wash‑down when rain or dew contacts the surface before it cures. By reducing water absorption through the coating by up to 95%, ADM80‑1 significantly improves durability.

Use Instructions

Emulsion ADM80‑1 is easy to use. Stir the emulsion thoroughly before application to ensure consistency.

Add the correct amount—between 0.25 and 1% by weight—during the final blending stage of the coating, and blend carefully to achieve even dispersion. The product is water‑based so all equipment can be cleaned with water.

It is always recommended that a pilot trial should be carried out prior to using Emulsion adm80-1 to determine the suitability of this product for the purpose.

Handling & Storage

Worksafe Australia classifies Emulsion ADM80‑1 as a non‑hazardous material. Users should still follow good industrial hygiene procedures when handling the product. Store Emulsion ADM80‑1 in closed containers placed in a cool, dry location away from fire sources. When kept sealed and stored below 25 °C, the product maintains a shelf life of 12 months.

Packaging

Emulsion adm80-1 is available in 20 and 200 litre plastic drums or 1,000 litre plastic bulky bin. Other size containers may be available on request.
