Efflorescence prevention Efflorescence of masonry is due to salt deposits caused by water penetration into the masonry capillaries. Efflorescence can be removed by a light acid wash. However, the efflorescence will come back again due to moisture penetration. One of the most effective ways to stop efflorescence is to treat the substrate with water repellent.
